Shawn Rashid: Growth, success, joy.

I feel overwhelmingly blessed and excited to be racing for Ammonite Motorsport this 2022 season. The journey has been full of growth, success, and joy. Here's a little insight into my season so far!

It is my rookie season in the BRSCC Formula Ford Championship and my first time racing overseas from the United States. It has been quite a significant adjustment, getting used to the Formula Ford I had never driven before and moving to the UK. Most of my prior experience comes from karting and higher power downforce cars such as the Formula Pro Mazda and Dallara Indy Lights. Although the driving style is notably different from what I'm used to, I pride myself on being a quick learner and rapidly picking up new skills. I was able to get a substantial amount of seat time in our team tests at Snetterton, Donington Park, and Brands Hatch. While using the time to learn these incredible tracks and get familiar with the car, I could progressively find more speed.

The test days and offseason training paid off in the first race of the season at Silverstone International, where I collected my first piece of hardware, securing a first among rookies in my first race. The second race started tremendously, and I found myself moving up the grid and into 6th place during the beginning of the race after starting 10th. Unfortunately, after getting squeezed onto an apex sausage curb by a fellow racer, I contacted another car, which ended my race. However, everything adds to the textbook, and this was just one of many learning experiences to come.

I couldn't be happier with the Ammonite Motorsport guys (and gals!). The team and my fellow teammates have gone far and beyond to make me feel at home. I am so grateful to be a part of this fantastic squad, and I can't wait to get back racing at Knockhill soon. Thank you very much for taking the time to join me on my journey. Until next time!
